On January 17, the Port of Ostend in Belgium issued a statement stating that Tyros BV will be moving in to launch a project for recycling waste tires through pyrolysis technology.
Tyros BV was founded in May 2024 and will be based on a 2 - hectare site at the former UCB base in the Ostend port area.
The company's investment in an electric pyrolysis reactor has secured 1 million euros (roughly equivalent to 7.54 million yuan in RMB) in "strategic ecological support" funds from the local government.
This technology enables the annual conversion of 9,125 tons of rubber granules made from waste tires into products such as recycled carbon black, green pyrolysis oil, and syngas.
The statement further indicated that the plant will eventually handle 100,000 tons of tires per year, with 18,000 tons to be processed on - site via pyrolysis.
The statement also noted that this will yield over 5,000 tons of pyrolysis oil and approximately 6,800 tons of recycled carbon black for circular applications.
The Port of Antwerp - Bruges (Flanders Port Authority) finally stated that tires will be transported by truck, while shredded tires will be shipped by container via waterways for further processing.
