Specialty chemicals producer Orion is installing multiple tire pyrolysis oil (TPO) tanks at its plant in Jaslo, Poland, to support an increase the production of circular carbon black.
The new tanks will receive TPO delivered to the plant, which will then be pumped to furnace black reactors that will convert it into circular carbon black.
Orion says it is the only producer in its industry to have created carbon black from 100% TPO.
This circular process is part of tackling the challenge in the tire industry of recycling old tires and reducing the environmental impact of tire waste.
Orion’s efforts in sustainable manufacturing have been supported by collaborations with other organizations focused on environmental stewardship, particularly those involved in TPO production.
“Our partnership with TPO producers underscores our shared commitment to sustainability and innovation,” said Pedro Riveros, senior vice president of global rubber carbon black at Orion.
“Through collective action, we are driving positive change across the industry value chain, from tire waste management to resource recovery.”
