Nexen Tires Announces New Progress in Eco - Friendly Products

Recently, Nexen Tires stated that it has successfully developed tires using 70% sustainable raw materials, such as bio - based and recycled materials, and plans to initially introduce them to the European market. Nexen claims that this attempt aims to address the increasingly stringent environmental regulations in developed markets, including those in Europe. Specifically, in this research, 53% of bio - based renewable raw materials and 17% of recycled materials are used in all components of the tires, meaning that the proportion of sustainable raw materials has reached 70%, a significant increase compared to the previous 52%. In terms of materials, sustainable raw materials are applied, including natural rubber that meets the GPSNR (Global Platform for Sustainable Natural Rubber) standard, biosynthetic rubber, rice husk silica, recycled PET, and bead wires and steel cords made from scrap metal.

Although further research and development are still needed before commercialization, Nexen's plan is to increase the proportion of sustainable and environmentally - friendly raw materials and achieve 100% conversion by 2045. This research proves that the use of sustainable raw materials can also lead to excellent performance. The rolling resistance coefficient of this tire is 5.11 N/kN, meeting the highest performance level A (below 6.5) of the European Label Standard. A low rolling resistance coefficient means that the tire consumes less energy, can save fuel, and contributes to reducing carbon emissions. Meanwhile, Nexen is promoting the development of various environmental - friendly technologies to minimize the impact on the environment, including the use of sustainable raw materials. It is said that to date, more than 90 types of sustainable raw materials have been evaluated.
